BUILDING A STRONGER PARTNERSHIP

YOUR CHALLENGE

“My business partner and I need to work smarter, not harder. How can we get one plus one to equal three?”

OUR SOLUTION

These individuals already had positive and open communication, but knew their partnership would be more powerful with strengths coaching. We met individually with John and Sally to debrief their strengths. Here’s a glimpse into the meetings:

Let’s start with John (note his top 10 strengths). As he started describing his past successes, John realized how his strengths contributed to them. When we examined how he can pull multiple strengths together simultaneously to have a powerful impact, he was awestruck, having never considered that before. The conversation enabled John to see himself in a new light. Using his strengths at their best, he had the potential to be:

A leader who can push his team hard because he celebrates the wins and makes them feel a part of the victory. He is best at leading teams that need to be agile and he is able to channel their energy at the milestone ahead. He also uses an examination of the details and a reflection on the past and current situation to ensure continuous learning and improvement. The team follows him because they trust he will meet commitments and he engages them in a way that they feel a part of this journey.

JOHN’S STRENGTHS
Context
Adaptability
Learner
Competition
Includer
Positivity
Analytical
Responsibility
Intellection
Focus
John discovered that he had some natural behaviors that he didn’t even realize were strengths – his ability to effortlessly generate outside the box solutions and his high level of positivity. We examined how can he develop and use these strengths for greater benefit, as well as how they interplay with his other dominant talent themes. John started scheduling time to feed his intellection and ideation. We then focused on what strengths would partner well with Sally.

SALLY’S STRENGTHS
Empathy
Responsibility
Input
Learner
Restorative
Intellection
Discipline
Connectedness
Harmony
Individualization
One of Sally’s strengths was futuristic, which means it is impossible for her not be thinking about the future. This is a great example of one plus one equals three. With John’s propensity to look back (context) and Sally’s need to look forward (futuristic), they can develop powerful solutions to client issues. She can paint a clear vision with words (because of her communication strength), and John can dial in on what milestones must be achieved to be the best (focus and competition).

Here is another example of a synergy we identified. Sally loves to collect information (input) that she now funnels to John to feed his ideation. As they plan financially for the business, each contributes multiple skills to that process. Sally provides the data (input), which John analyzes (analytical), and they develop a plan to meet future goals (strategic, focus, futuristic). Sally’s discipline is helpful in developing processes to ensure they stick to the budget.

Now they intentionally have a monthly strengths discussion to ensure they are using this knowledge to optimize their performance. And before allocating tasks, they consider whose strengths would be better suited for the work or how they will jointly aim their strengths at the challenge. This is how they have woven strengths into their business to make a profound difference.
